Hi, we are Tom and Rebecca. As we sit here to write this letter, our hearts are filled with excitement! Though we aren’t sure we have the right words for you, we hope our profile helps you see the love we have for each other, our family, and the love we hope to share with a little one.
We met almost ten years ago when Rebecca was walking out of an ice cream shop and Tom was walking out of the sandwich shop next door. His work partner at the time was one of Rebecca’s best friends, so we were introduced.
We became friends and then best friends! It was like we had known each other our whole lives. We both had previously been married and knew what didn’t work and what we were praying to find in a partner.
From the get-go, it was a constant conversation! We moved closer to each other to allow our relationship to grow and moved in together pretty quickly after that. We began the process of rebuilding and renovating our dream home, a 238-year-old farmhouse! In October 2019, we were married in the yard of our barely finished home.
We both have amazing kids from our previous marriages. When we married, Rebecca gained a son, Clayton (21), and Tom gained a son and daughter, Avery (13) and Hartley (9)! We feel so incredibly blessed and fortunate to have three beautiful children, and we are excited to grow our family through adoption.
Expectant mothers who choose to make an adoption plan may qualify for some level of financial assistance during their pregnancy. However, each person's situation and specific needs are different. Your adoption social worker can help you determine what level of assistance you qualify for and deserve. Many expectant mothers qualify for financial assistance to cover basic pregnancy and living expenses, including but not limited to - transportation reimbursement, utility assistance for phone, water, and electricity/gas, maternity clothing and supplements, etc.
It won't cost you anything. If you choose to place your baby for adoption, all of your medical and legal fees will be covered and you may be eligible for financial assistance with other pregnancy-related expenses.
Yes. Even if you don’t know the identity of the birth father, you can still choose to make an adoption plan. However, every adoption situation is different. The adoption social worker you’re assigned to will get to know you and your story first, and then guide you through the process accordingly.
You can make an adoption plan at any point in your pregnancy, even after the baby has been born. But, it's important to start the process as early in your pregnancy as possible. Connecting with those resources will allow you to gain access to important medical services, including prenatal care, to help ensure a healthy pregnancy.
One aspect of your adoption plan is the "Hospital Plan" an outline of how you'd like your hospital stay and delivery to go. You can craft this on your own or with the help of your adoption social worker. But everything is up to you. You’ll be able to choose who comes to the hospital with you, who is in the room with you during delivery, and how much time you’d like to spend with the baby before signing the final papers.
As part of your adoption plan, you'll determine whether or not you’d like to have an open or closed adoption or something in between. Open adoptions may include phone calls, messaging (via social media, email, or text), and/or periodic visits each year. Closed adoptions may include no contact at all or annual updates provided to the birth parent(s) by the adoptive family. Each post-adoption relationship is different and can vary based on what an expectant mother chooses in her adoption plan.
It's November and I am so excited! This is my favorite time of year! Not only is it my favorite holiday to cook for, but also the hustle of the whole world preparing to spoil and bless those all around them, it just gives me that warm fuzzy feeling. I feel like this is the time of year people, as a whole, let down their walls a little bit and start thinking about how life has treated them, and whether you feel fortunate or let down, we can assess the choices we've made that have led us to be here and we have the opportunity to make adjustments. It's not just about being thankful, but also about forgiveness. This is one of those things that I strive to use all year and have tried to instill in our home, this particular holiday just vamps it up for us! One of my favorite traditions in our Thanksgiving Tree! We have a cheesy pre-lit tree that goes up on the earlier side of November. It lives in the corner of our dining room. I spend an entire day cutting out leaves, BY HAND, and pull out the markers. I have a machine...
While last year was so unpredictable and incredibly chaotic for the whole world, we took advantage of the pause to travel! We hit ALL of our favorite places; Wyoming, Washington State, Florida, Colorado, Louisiana, Gatlinburg, Chatanooga. When it was time for Fall Break, we were done! For the first time ever we stayed home, but we did all the things. We went shopping and prepared Christmas lists, we picked up from our local DIY workshop and decorated ornaments for gifts and made lots of fun signs, and we went to the Nashville Zoo and ate at every snack stand. We played outside on the swing every night, had some seriously competitive Oculus matches, enjoyed a few movie nights, and then ended our break with a fun night out at the arcade and dinner with friends! Mini Golf is always our favorite! It could not have been any better! I love that we live in such a fun filled community! I can confidently say that we ALL cannot wait to explore, grow, and learn all over again with a new little one!
It is finally cool enough that we have started sleeping with the windows open and I absolutely love waking up to that Tennesee Fall smell. The tobacco barns are burning, pumpkin and cinnamon are EVERYWHERE, we've been baking like crazy so the house always smells like warm treats! It is just smells like a home should, warm and welcoming even on the stormiest of days. This weekend we dove deep into fall! We found all the mums and pumpkins that could fit on our front porch, we decorated our halloween gingerbread house, we watched th Titans lose, and we made SO MANY COOKIES- Chocolate chip (Kis Fav), Cherry Chocolate Chip (My fav), Gooey Butter Cake, and Lemon (Tom's fav). One of our favorite things to do as a family during this time of year, and honestly for any other holiday they are available, is to watch all the holiday baking shows- Halloween Baking Championship, Halloween Wars with the pumpkin carving, the newest hershey Chocolate Meltdown. We cannot get enough, we will watch them over and over all day long! They start getting us excited and serve as inspiration for all of our upcoming holiday meal planning! I LOVE having a...
We are surrounded by great schools in our community and they are continuing to expand and growing in our favor! I grew up mostly going to a private school, with little time spent in a public school. Tom grew up going to both private and public as they moved around. I played soccer, was a cheerleader, swimmer, gymnast. Tom was a football jock. Until I was a parent, I honestly never really had thoughts on private vs. pubic schools. I had friends in both and it was just school. I believe they both have benefits or pros/cons and have learned what they have each had to offer to my children. I am so thankful that we have had such positive experiences with our schools and love the excitement in my kiddos any time they talk about it. I will always remeber that awkward feeling, in pretty much every grade, when we would go back to school and the teachers would ask what we did over summer break, fall break, or whatever holiday we had just come back from. My family was definitely... on a more adventurous path, way more than what I felt was "normal". All my classmates would go to...
Today was the first day of Bookfair at Hartley's school, which is one of our favorite events! I will NEVER say "no" to a book. I will always encourage exploring, learning, or even just fun with books. As a child, I remeber these bookfares and the excitement of being able to go crazy myself. It just fills my heart to watch what attracts my kids and gives me the opportunity to learn something new about each of them. There are SO MANY books that have been passed down in our family. My nursery was decorated in Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit and I think this is where my love for that mischievous rabbit started. This was also the inspiration behind decorating our nursery! I have always loved Peter Rabbit. I still have the original books that I had as a child! I have shared these with Avery and Hartley and also with my neices and nephews. I cannot wait to share Peter Rabbit with our sweet angel baby.
While fall might technically still be a few weeks away, September 1st is when we set the tone in our home! I LOVE fall! I love to decorate our home with all the earthy tones of the season. I love the smell of cinnamon, pumpkin, s'mores and wood fires burning swirling around the house. Is there anything more comfy than an oversized sweater? Fall happens to also be the beginning of MY baking season! This morning I woke up, like any other school morning, and hit the ground running. We have been working like crazy to make some small changes to our home trying to get it just perfect to welcome a little one! We have had so much fun and have seen a whole new side of each other, the baby voices are real these days! This morning was the perfect morning for a little kitchen therapy! I never really go in with a plan, it's really more of a season for me. I looked around and saw a bunch of bananas sitting on the counter that I had moved around one too many times so I reached for my trusty banana bread recipe. It isn't a...
